À propos

Brahms has always fascinated Geoffroy Couteau. After winning first prize at the International  Johannes Brahms competition in 2005, he recorded Brahms’s complete works for solo piano for the La Dolce Volta label. The result was recognized as one of the best recordings of 2016 by the international music press. Geoffroy Couteau performs in the world’s most prestigious concert halls.

The Quatuor Hermès, named for the famous messenger of Greek mythology, draws its musical force from its role in passing the composer’s text to the musical sensibilities of the listener. The messager identity also fits the musicians’ travels all over the world: from Carnegie Hall in New York to the Forbidden City of Beijing to London’s Wigmore Hall. The quartet was founded in 2008 at the national conservatory (CNSMD) in where its members were studying with the members of the Quatuor Ravel. They perfected and enriched their artistry with quartets including the Ysaÿe and Artemis, as well as Eberhard Feltz and later Alfred Brendel. Prizewinners in numerous competitions, including Geneva and the Young Concert Artists Auditions in New York, they were also the quartet in residence at the Queen Elisabeth Chapel in Brussels from 2012 to 2016 and have been the partner quartet of the Fondation Singer-Polignac in Paris since 2019.
